Stitching Comfort, Mt. Hood Quilt Guild's Community Outreach group, works in a variety of ways to prepare kits for members to sew into quilt tops that will be put together with batting and a back. Kits are distributed at meetings or at our Community Sew days. Members can then quilt either on their domestic sewing machine, or mid/long arm.

Once completed, there are a number of members who enjoy binding the quilts, finishing the process so they can then be delivered into the community. We welcome completed tops as well, or gently used quilts that may need a new home!

Since the Guild began in 2015, our members have generously donated time, talent and supplies to use in the Stitching Comfort Program.  Over the years, we have had opportunities to donate quilts and other sewn items to the following agencies:

  • Our Just Future-Human Solutions
  • Mt. Hood Medical Center
  • Ronald McDonald House
  • Randall Children’s Hospital
  • Hopewell House
  • Fill a Stocking, Fill a Heart
  • Pregnancy Resource Center
  • Quilts Beyond Borders
  • Kid’s Center
  • Boxes of Love
  • Gresham Women’s Center
  • Gresham Barlow Schools
  • Portland VA Hospital
  • Pink Sistas
  • Restore Hope
  • Quilts of Valor
  • Zarephath Kitchen
  • Kaiser Hospitals
  • Columbia Regional- Inclusive Services

Size matters, at least for charity quilts.
Here are some common sizes that you can use as an
approximate guideline:

Ronald McDonald House - 40-45" wide by 48-60" long (kid prints)

Randall Children's Hospital - 36-40" wide by 40-45" long (baby prints)

Mt. Hood Legacy Hospital Passage - 40" x 60" (adult)

Our Just Future Women's Shelter - approximately 50" x 70" (any prints)

Hopewell Hospice - lap size to throw size (any prints)

Our Community Partnership with Fill a Stocking Outreach allows our members to share resources and sewing skills with an even broader range of agencies in Clackamas County. We share our fabric and yarn donations with them, and our members craft many seasonal stockings, pillowcases, knit and crochet hats, and fleece items as requested by their community partners.

We find that the agencies we support in Multnomah County have similar needs, and our members have even more opportunities to reach out to others.

Bring your donations of pillowcases, stockings, toiletries, yarn, or fabric you want to donate to Fill a Stocking to a guild meeting and our delivery elf will take it to them in Oregon City.
